A Letter of Gratitude to a Mother: The Eternal Embrace of Life
My adored and unforgettable Mom:
How can one put into words a gratitude that is bigger than the sky and deeper than the ocean? How do you thank the person who not only lent her own body so I could form my bones and heart, but has dedicated every heartbeat of her existence to caring for, holding, and illuminating my path? Today I want to attempt the impossible: capturing in this letter a fraction of the infinite love I have for you.
The Invisible Sacrifices I Recognize Today
When I was a child, I believed your strength was magic and your time was limitless. I took for granted the warm meal served on the table, the clean clothes in my closet, your cool hands placing warm washcloths on my forehead during feverish nights, and your tireless smiles every morning. Today, with the maturity the years have given me, I look back and can see the true miracle of your love: the invisible sacrifices.
"Now I understand the times you said 'I'm not hungry' just so I could eat the last portion; I understand the exhaustion you hid behind your smile and the personal dreams you placed on hold so I could reach mine." – Delia Iaboni
The Sacred Legacy You Left in My Soul
Mom, you didn't just give me biological life; you taught me the sacred art of living it. Everything good, noble, and resilient in me bears your invisible signature. From you I learned:
- Dignity in adversity: I watched you face financial storms, sorrows, and problems with a straight back and unshakable faith, teaching me that a storm can never bring down someone with deep roots of love.
- The value of compassion and generosity: Your home always had open doors and your heart always had space to comfort the sad. You taught me that true wealth lies not in what we accumulate, but in what we give.
- The comfort of a maternal embrace: Even today, in my moments of greatest exhaustion or doubt as an adult, the memory of your hug remains the safest and warmest harbor in the universe. Nothing calms the soul like hearing your voice say: *"Everything is going to be okay, my love."*
A Promise of Eternal Love
Mom, I want you to know that every achievement I reach, every act of kindness I perform, and every steady step I take in this world is a living tribute to your effort and dedication. Your love is the foundation upon which I built my entire being.
Thank you for being my first love, my supreme teacher, my unconditional confidante, and my guardian angel on Earth. I pray to life that I may always keep you close to give back to you, even in some small measure, the whole ocean of tenderness and care you gifted me since before my first breath.
I love you with all my soul, today and for all eternity,
Your grateful child.
